Why I want to be a Teacher
My name is Laura Wenzinger and the reason why, I want to be a teacher is because as a kid till now I have always had trouble in school. In kindergarten my parents found out I have dyslexia. They put me through so many things, like tutoring, after school help, even during school help. When I was in a private school they would pull me out of class and try to help me, but it wasn’t enough.
After 5th grade, we got a letter from the school telling me that I shouldn’t go there anymore. They didn’t think I was smart enough to stay in that school. So I was put in a public school. Things became easier, but I still had my problems. I would mix letters up or I would mispronounce something. When it came to learning or studying it would always take me longer to obtain the information. I want to be able to prove that you shouldn’t give up on a student just, because you don’t want to help them anymore or you think they are not smart enough. When I become a teacher I want to be able to help the students succeed in school and help them become the best that they can be.
By the time, I was in 8th grade I was drifting away again. I struggle a lot not just with school, but with drama too. I was in over my head. Then my brother and my niece moved done here to be closer to family. My niece Alyssa would come over to hang out and play. My mom suggested I keep her busy by using some of the work books we had. She had me help her with it and teach her what to do as well. I began to really enjoy helping her with her workbooks. It became a really good interest of mine. Helping her also helped me get back on board in my school, because it gave me confidence in myself. I want to be able to help my students stay confident in each other and in their selves.
By the time, I got to high school I knew I wanted to become a teacher, because I joined the T.E.AC.H program. When I started T.E.A.C.H the students made me feel welcome, like I belonged there. It also felt amazing, because this was a goal of mine, to make it somewhere I thought I would never make it. I also want that for my students, I want them to feel like they belong and that they can do anything if they set their minds to it. In conclusion, I want to become a teacher, because I want enjoy something I love. I also want to show students that it’s possible to succeed in even though it feels impossible. I want to help my students succeed in any way I can and help them feel like they belong. I also want my students to have fun and to remember that it is not the end it is only the beginning.
